I Am My Mother’s Child by Courtney Spears 2012

Just in time for mother’s day, here’s a great student poem and some artwork by Henry Moore, both which explore the relationship between mother and child.

I am my mother’s child

By Courtney Spears

I am my mother’s child

She gave me her brown eyes

And passed along with them knowledge

Her words of wisdom forever are engraved

In my mind, in my soul,

Because I am a part of her whole

In time

When I journey on my own

I will remember that her spirit is beating in mine

Her thoughts will drive my mind

I am a the completing piece to her puzzle she calls life

I grow up and flourish

To my own sense of independence

I will soar beyond the range

But never forget

I am my mother’s child
